Spins, Spells, Faith, Hope and Charity

The Malta International Arts Festival’s wide-ranging programme of events continues Tuesday 21st July at the Auberge d’Italie Courtyard with Spins & Spells, a distinctive concert by cellist Gabriella Swallow, one of the most versatile and exciting cellists of her generation. Spins & Spells is an intimate yet powerful performance combining music by Bach with contemporary works as well as Maltese poetry curated by the Kunsill Nazzjonali tal-Ktieb, giving it a unique twist.  Wednesday 22nd July is the opening night of Faith, Hope u Charity, a theatrical production scripted by the renowned local author and poet Immanuel Mifsud and based on a story by Mario Philip Azzopardi, under the direction of Josette Ciappara. Faith, Hope u Charity is an epic play set in Malta at the start of the Second World War, and it follows Marija, a young woman of twenty, as she volunteers as a nurse to help the wounded soldiers where she meets two young men who become enchanted by her.
