The 11th Edition of International Spring Orchestra Festival Launched!

Featuring strong Viennese elements in Karl Fiorini’s programme for the 2017 edition of the ISO Festival.

Starting on 28 April and ending on 9 May, this year’s International Spring Orchestra Festival (ISO) will boast 12 concerts, held in various venues all over the capital, including at Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Our Lady of Victories Church, Auberge de Castille, Palazzo Pereira, the National Museum of Archaeology, Robert Samut Hall, and the Mediterranean Conference Centre. As per tradition, all concerts will be free for anyone aged 15 and under.

Commenting about how he established the programme for this year’s edition, the Paris-based composer and ISO’s artistic director Karl Fiorini said, “The idea for this year’s programme revolves around Vienna and its music, and germinated during my many trips there last year.

“The Festival will feature Viennese composers from different eras, as well as Viennese musicians in a programme that travels back in time to reach its climax with Beethoven’s Ninth ‘Choral’ Symphony on Europe Day on May 9, whose ‘Ode to Joy,’ set to Schiller’s verses, is the official anthem of the European Union.”

This year’s much-anticipated programme will showcase a cast of international stars for the solo parts of Beethoven’s majestic symphony – Soprano Elisabeth Teige, Mezzo Marvic Monreal, Tenor Thomas Mohr and Baritone Franz Hawlata. Moreover, the Maltese choir, prepared by Mro Riccardo Bianchi, will merge with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir in a gesture that should not be overlooked, since Estonia will be taking the EU Presidency seat right after Malta.
