The perfect venue for a corporate event with a difference

Hera - Corporate events1

Organising a conference for a senior management group can often seem like a daunting task.  The exacting standards, varied demands and endless logistical challenges are enough to test anyone’s powers of endurance. No matter how organised and well planned, I have learnt to always expect the unexpected.

How refreshing, therefore, when certain elements can go off without a hitch. That is certainly the experience I had with the last event I organised with Hera Cruises. I was looking for a venue to host an end of conference awards event. The brief was simple. Food, drink, a dance floor, a suitable location for the awards ceremony and a “wow” factor.  Now truth be told, most of these elements are relatively easy to come by in any number of Malta’s great restaurants and hotels. But creating an evening with enough of a difference to really amaze our exacting crowd is somewhat hard.

So imagine arriving quayside and climbing the gangway onto a thoroughly charming Turkish Gullet.  As a member of the crew reaches out a hand to assist guests coming on board, a waiter stands ready with a cool glass of Prosecco and another with a beautiful tray of canapés. As more guests arrive, many of them congregate at the front of the boat and are greeted by the view of Manoel Island, with the Valletta skyline just off in the distance.

As the mooring ropes are released and the boat starts to move, anticipation is high. The sun is just starting to set and the glamour of this group of executives on board, dressed to impress, is amplified by the spectacular sight that greets them as they motor on past the iconic Valletta bastions. This view is made all the more spectacular as the setting sun bounces its soft light off the Maltese limestone to create honey-coloured hues.

Waiters circulate among the guests with more canapés and fresh drinks. The atmosphere is relaxed and cheerful as some chat in small groups discussing the outcomes of the days’ meetings.  The Hera turns into the Grand Harbour and against the backdrop of Valletta and the Three Cities, the crew drop anchor and the night’s proceedings can begin.  The company chairman picks up the microphone to make his opening speech before the awards ceremony begins: And then the names are called out. The group of managers and executives stand out wonder if they will be recognised for their contribution to the company. The glittering awards are lined up smartly on deck as one by one the recipients approach to collect theirs.

Following congratulations and photo opportunities, it is time to get the party going. The crew helpfully assists the award recipients to safely store away their trophies in a locked cabin below deck. The DJ takes his place and the dancing begins.  The bar is now open and the hard work and fantastic organisation culminate in a night to remember. The music fills the Grand Harbour as the crew prepare to motor on back to the Sliema ferries. It has always impressed me just how safety conscious the Hera Crew are and how well they strike a balance between their guests’ enjoyment and maintaining their safety at all times.
