Winners of the Vitra Re-Chair competition

Dex - EASA Competition - event & winners 2

DEX Workspaces and EASA (European Architecure Students Assembly) Malta are pleased to announce that the winners of the Re-Chair competition are Kieren O’Donnel from Ireland, Idil Okyar from France, Wendy Tokuoka from Switzerland and Nikolai Petrov from Bulgaria.

They won an exclusive set of iconic Vitra miniatures, with their excellent re-creation of the Eames Rocking Armchair by Vitra, made entirely out of recyclable waste material provided by WasteServe Malta.

The Re-Chair competition took place during EASA, a two-week event that brings together up to 500 architecture students and young professionals from all over Europe, as well as other parts of the world, to participate in a series of interactive workshops and lectures. On Tuesday, 4 August, 30 participants gathered at the main site of the 2015 assembly, the Valletta Ditch, where they had from 09.30 until noon to choose a design concept and build a Vitra chair replica using only the recyclable materials and tools provided.

At the end of the competition, the chairs were presented to a panel of judges representing DEX Workspaces and EASA, who judged the quality of the final products on a number of criteria, including: creative and efficient use of the materials provided, similarity to the original chair, stability, and overall look. The winners were announced and the final prize was presented by DEX. The best chairs will be on display at the EASA main site in Valletta for the duration of the event, including public open days on 7, 8, and 15 August.
