A wander through The Secret Garden at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Malta

The Secret Garden is the inspiration taken by designer Adalia B for her collection of headpieces. As its name suggests, this talented milliner takes her inspiration for this collection from nature and the freedom it brings like the freedom of creativity.  Adalia’s pieces are all one-off handmade creations that are made specifically to suit the client’s own style. A true perfectionist, Adalia has a passion for fabric manipulation and the use of detailed embellishments.

It is clear when you see the collection that Adalia’s creations are as much about the technical precision with which they are made as they are about the real creative design and freedom of expression through her art.

For my simpler taste, some of the subtler designs have real style. My particular favourites at the show were a band of red and orange bold flowers, and a green piece made of intertwined beads and stones.

However, there is no denying the beauty of some of the more flamboyant pieces. Pretty florals, feathers and sumptuous spring colours added such a sense of realism to the Secret Garden theme we were immersed into.

The theme was further accentuated by the lovely setting provided by FX  Zammit Garden Centre, and the music that was especially composed for the show by Mario Sammut. Birdsong and modern beats really lent an edgy feel to this classic concept.

One of the highlight pieces for me is the black tiara-esque headpiece, whose delicate flowers are reminiscent of lace, but with a very contemporary feel. I see this to be a piece befitting of any royal wedding.
