Our Festive Season Party Looks from the Pink Fashion Show

Pink Fashion Show

Well they definitely did it again. The 2016 winter edition of the Pink Fashion Show by Times of Malta reached new heights of creativity.

Walking into the Teatru Manoel to find a catwalk extending into a cleared auditorium was a sight to behold. Somehow, the 18th century theatre felt even grander, stripped back. I’m sure it was something about the focal point moving away from the stage and bang into the midst of the audience. Almost creating a fulcrum where all the grandeur came together.

The Valletta International Baroque Ensemble almost eclipsed the grand painted background as the models headed down the catwalk accompanied by their classical repertoire. The collections chosen for the night were carefully selected to complement the venue. The brands on the catwalk were: River Island, M&Co, Lulu’ Boutique, Mexx, United Colours of Benetton, Rebelli and Mangano.

My mission on the night was to pick out my favourite looks for this upcoming party season. There were four elements that caught my eye.

Lace creates a very feminine, or sexy look, and can be worn by women of any age in different dress styles. Shorter silhouettes in lighter colours are great for the younger party goers while the shift dress silhouette can also suit the more mature lady. Ultimately the overall effect of lace will always be classic and striking.

Sequins are always a favourite at this time of year. They will create shimmer and shine at any Christmas party. Some of the looks we saw on the catwalk used sequins in a very sophisticated way, picking out detailing, seams and edging to enhance the dress the dress designs with shine that doesn’t shout OTT. From long flowing gowns to short cocktail numbers, sequins can finally feel at home at any type of event.

Whether in accessories or the garments themselves, gold can be used as a focal point in various ways. It features on buttons, stitching and piping, studs, bags…etc. Such versatility means you can add a celebratory touch to coordinate any outfit to this trend. A little bit of gold will transform your look to a stunning on trend one.

Shimmer and Lurex

Lurex and its close relatives seem to have made a comeback from the 70s and 80sIn its more modern incarnations, the look is simply gorgeous. Shimmering thread and knits create a look that is not as vivid as sequins or gold but instead conveys refined look. These longer line looks are truly elegant. The darker colours look great paired with bolder accents such as belts or chunky necklaces or a statement biker jacket for that modern, retro look.

I hope you fancy some of our picks for your party look this festive season.
