Valletta’s Glistening Glass Christmas Tree

Mdina Glass Christmas Tree 5

The Christmas season has officially begun for Mdina Glass with the annual re-appearance of the glassmaker’s popular 7 metre Christmas tree, and the start of the Mdina Glass Open Week pre-Christmas sale.

The Christmas tree is made from over 2,000 mouth-blown glass baubles of varying colours and sizes, attached to an inner structure. Just like last year, it has been installed on Republic Street, in front of the parliament building and forms part of the Valletta 2018 European Capital of Culture programme. The location is perfect as the tree welcomes visitors arriving in Valletta via the city gate with an overwhelming sense of seasonal cheer.

Close to the tree, at the Pjazza Teatru Rjal façade (site of the old opera house) is a seasonal Mdina Glass Christmas shop selling handmade baubles, ornamental Christmas trees, hanging cribs, lanterns and more. A share of the proceeds from this outlet will be donated to id-Dar tal-Providenza.
