A Gozo hideaway

In need of a break from the humdrum of day-to-day life, many Maltese residents head to the sister island of Gozo for a relaxing get-away and now there is even more reason to visit the unspoilt, laid back island; Dar tal-Kaptan Guesthouse in Ghasri.

This beautiful Guesthouse was, and in many aspects, still is, a private home that has been lovingly re-decorated with a caring personal approach to guests’ needs.  Many authentic features, which are characteristic of homes in times gone by in the Maltese Islands, have been retained in order to maintain the character of the original house, such as tile floors, beams and little nooks and crannies filled with collectables and unique artwork.

The views from each bedroom window across the tranquil countryside immediately calm down the senses and you feel yourself beginning to relax and release the tensions of the working week.

A warm welcome awaits you the moment you set foot in Dar tal-Kaptan, with your choice of refreshing drinks and local delicate pastries in the warm company of your host.

A Welcome Pack is handed over to you, with suggestions of places to visit as well as cafes and restaurants to sample during your stay on the island.

Accommodation consists of three large double bedrooms, all featuring a different decorative theme and equipped with air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, and a welcome large bowl of fresh fruit as well as a choice of toiletries. Each has its own balcony or terrace with panoramic views across the stunning, unspoilt Gozitan countryside.

The setting is indeed perfect to create a tranquil sanctuary where guests can relax and breathe in the country air, chill out around the swimming pool and Jacuzzi whist listening to soft chill-out music and being pampered by your hosts; who make it a point to ensure that their guests enjoy their privacy, however, are always on hand replenishing jugs of iced lemon water, offering refreshing fresh fruit and homemade smoothies using the freshest and healthiest of ingredients.

Breakfast is included in the rates and offers a wide choice including fresh juices, cereals, cold cuts and cheeses, a selection of different breads and croissants, eggs cooked to order (with added fresh herbs picked on the spot from pots in the garden) and fresh fruit.  What a wonderful way to start the day, being pampered in the beautiful garden setting surrounded by greenery, flowers and singing birds.

Free wifi is available both in the indoor and outdoor areas and the library is stacked with books which are available for guests to borrow.

A host of treatments by I.T.E.C. qualified practitioners are available within the Guesthouse itself, including Aromatherapy, Indian Head massage, Deep Tissue massage, Reflexology and Reiki.

Everything one could possibly need for a totally relaxing break is made available however, what is overwhelming, is the genuine care, attention and warm hospitality of hosts, Peter and Warren.  Having spent a lifetime in the hospitality industry myself, I truly take my hat off to both of them; such genuine hospitality is priceless.
