On Saturday, 5th September, an Exhibition of Paintings by Alison Zammit Endrich, titled “San Blas, Gozo,” will open to the Public at the Il-Hagar, Heart of Gozo Museum in Victoria, Gozo.

I caught up with Alison at her home in San Blas, prior to the start of the Exhibition, and asked her to tell us about her love of painting;

“I’ve been painting since I was a child! I took art in secondary school then picked it up again about 26 years ago, when I decided to take fine art courses organized by different universities.

I should say, however, that I developed as an artist, in the same way as I developed as an art teacher; through practice, experimenting and being open to learning. I believe we should never stop growing and developing in whatever we choose to do and in my case, my focus is art education.”

Alison has been teaching art at San Anton School in Malta for 21 years.  However, her inspiration for this collection of paintings started in San Blas, Gozo. “I started painting San Blas in the summer of 2013, needing an escape from busy, overpopulated St Julian’s and finding peace and inspiration in San Blas, and the beautiful views from the home we have had there for the last 8 years. Since then I have been inspired to sketch the landscape of San Blas and its environs. In Summer 2013 I decided I was going to work towards my first solo exhibition.”

Alison’s work truly captures the beauty of the San Blas valley and the different moods and colours created by the changing weather and seasons.  “I love colour and especially the different moods evoked by colour.”

The Exhibition will run until Saturday, 12 September, from 9am – 5pm.
